An orthopedic pediatrician and an orthopedic surgeon are engaged in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and pathologies of the musculoskeletal system in children of all ages.

The diseases that a pediatric orthopedist helps with and their treatment methods are quite specific and require special experience and training from a specialist. Most of these diseases are associated with the growth and development of the child's body and do not occur in adult patients.

Pediatric orthopedist is engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as congenital and acquired pathologies of the extremities and spine, gait disorders, pain in joints of various origins. An orthopedic pediatrician also provides consultations for parents on prevention methods and recommends sets of exercises to ensure the proper and harmonious development of the child's body.

The causes of diseases of the musculoskeletal system can be:

  • congenital anomalies of the musculoskeletal system
  • excess weight
  • genetic predisposition
  • rickets suffered by a child
  • incorrectly selected shoes, or shoes of poor quality
The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the EMC Children's Clinic provides diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the following diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system in children:
It is known that it is easier to prevent the disease than to treat it, therefore, preventive examinations by an orthopedist should be carried out from early childhood in order to monitor the development of the musculoskeletal system. During a routine checkup with a pediatric orthopedist at the EMC Children's Clinic, the doctor determines the range of movements in the joints, looks at the anatomical axis of the spine, and prescribes diagnostic measures in case of suspicion of any disease.

Be sure to seek the help of a qualified pediatric orthopedist if you notice a child with:

  • Forced position

The appearance of a forced position of the head or other segment of the musculoskeletal system (hand, foot)

  • Rare use of a limb

The child tries to use one of the limbs less

  • Extraneous sounds

When you move a limb, you notice a characteristic "crunch" or "click"

  • The difference

In the axis and length of the limbs (upper and lower)

  • Pain

When walking in joints, knees, shins, spine

Consultation with a pediatric orthopedist

During the examination, the pediatric orthopedist of our clinic will conduct a survey, collect an anamnesis, and make orthopedic measurements necessary to establish an accurate diagnosis.

Depending on the child's disease, the pediatric orthopedist chooses the appropriate treatment method: This may include massage, exercises on special simulators, physiotherapy procedures, therapeutic gymnastics, the use of orthopedic insoles and mattresses. A pediatric orthopedic surgeon also determines the need for surgical intervention.

A pediatric orthopedist at the EMC must conduct a routine examination of a child at the age of 1 month in order to detect congenital diseases in a timely manner and treat them. Further, at 3, 6 and 9 months, according to the doctor's prescription, because during this period the baby's body has a particularly heavy load, because children at this age learn to crawl, sit andwalk. Routine preventive examinations by a pediatric orthopedic doctor helps to detect and cure diseases faster and more effectively at an early stage, since in the first year of life the child's musculoskeletal system is the most plastic and capable of recovery.

Starting from the year 1, we recommend that you undergo an annual checkup with a pediatric orthopedic doctor for preventive purposes. In adolescence, children often experience posture disorders of various degrees and scoliosis. The methods chosen by the pediatric orthopedic surgeon for their treatment will be the most effective if the disease is diagnosed early and the treatment is timely. Parents should carefully monitor their child's development in order to notice abnormalities that require an experienced pediatric orthopedist to correct and treat.

The Children's Clinic of the European Medical Center is attended by pediatric orthopedic doctors with extensive experience in this field.
