Malocclusion is quite common in humans. As a rule, this pathology is often accompanied by a number of symptoms: discomfort due to increased abrasion of tooth enamel, crunching and clicking when opening the mouth or the inability to fully open / close the mouth, headache, pain in the cervical spine and back. These conditions may indicate a dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint and problems with the masticatory muscles.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most difficult in the human body. It is responsible for the movement of the jaw forward, backward and from side to side. Any malfunction of this complex system of ligaments, discs, muscles, and bones is called TMJ dysfunction. In the absence of treatment, hypertonia of the masticatory muscles develops. Later, tension is transmitted to the nodal and trapezoidal muscles, pain appears in the neck, shoulders, and then in the entire spine.

Patients are not inclined to associate pain in the spine with bite problems, but the human body is a single system. Malocclusion, incorrect tooth placement, undesirable chewing habits (for example, chewing on one side) – all this "resonates" to other parts of the body, disrupting their normal functioning. At the same time, the system works in reverse order. So, often the curvature of the spine, congenital or lifestyle-related, leads to an aggravation of the asymmetry of all parts of the body, including malocclusion.
