Anal fringes
What is "anal fringe"?
Do I need to remove anal fringes?
As a rule, anal fringes are painless, do not cause inconvenience to patients, and are discovered accidentally during hygiene procedures. In rare cases, if the folds are damaged or hygiene problems occur, inflammation may develop on irritated skin, and the patient may feel itching, burning, and soreness.
However, for most patients, these skin folds are a cosmetic defect that sometimes imposes restrictions on intimate life. This causes a desire to get rid of anal fringes, even if they do not cause physical discomfort.
How are anal fringes removed?
Excision of the anal fringe is considered a surgical procedure in which a coloproctologist simply removes excess skin.
In the EMC Coloproctology Clinic, anal fringe excision is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. There are different ways to excise anal fringes — the radio wave method, laser or coagulator excision. The procedure takes about an hour, after which the patient can return to the normal rhythm of life. With any method of removal, the operation is almost bloodless, the wound heals quickly, without leaving a scar. Postoperative care consists in observing intimate hygiene and, if necessary, topical application of drying agents recommended by a doctor.
