Short-sightedness
If you can read and see objects well at close range, but have trouble focusing when the subject is far away, you most likely have nearsightedness or myopia.
Symptoms of myopia
How can I tell if this is myopia? Of course, the main sign of pathology is good recognition of objects at close range, but the inability to focus on objects at a long distance. A person constantly has to squint to see distant objects.
In addition, often with myopia, the eyes get tired very quickly and a headache occurs.
Causes of myopia
The inability to focus on distant objects is due to the fact that with myopia, the eye focuses what it sees not on the retina, as it should be normal, but before it. This may occur due to an increase in the optical axis of the eyeball or due to an increase in the refractive power of the lens. But sometimes myopia develops due to a combination of these two factors.
The genetic factor is of great importance in the development of pathology. If both parents have myopia, the probability that the child will also have myopia is about 50%.
Most often, the pathology develops in childhood. As the child grows, the disease progresses, and vision may deteriorate throughout life. However, there are cases when the disease stops progressing. To get rid of such a visual defect as myopia, a person needs treatment.
Diagnosis of myopia
Diagnosis of myopia begins with an eye examination by an ophthalmologist and isometry (checking visual acuity using a table). To identify possible changes on the retina (hemorrhages, dystrophies, lens opacities, etc.), the ophthalmologist performs ophthalmoscopy and biomicroscopy. In order to exclude retinal detachment and to assess the size of the lens, an ultrasound examination is necessary.
Treatment of myopia
The most common method of correcting myopia is the use of glasses or contact lenses. One of the advantages is simplicity. All that is required is to pick up glasses or lenses. However, this method of correction is not always convenient for everyone. You will have to wear glasses or lenses throughout your life and choose new ones as the disease progresses. In addition, it will be extremely difficult to choose glasses if a person has a combined pathology, that is, myopia, for example, with astigmatism.
laser vision correction. At EMC, we use the most reliable and effective technique – Femto Lasik.
And although such treatment is called surgical, it is performed on an outpatient basis. The patient needs to visit a doctor only once before treatment – to undergo an examination. After the examination, the ophthalmologist sets the date of the operation. Anesthesia is not used for the operation. All that is required is to drip the patient's eyes before special drops, they act as a local anesthetic.
Advantages of laser treatment of myopia using Femto Lasik technique
-
The operation lasts no more than 10 minutes, and the effect occurs immediately after its completion. The maximum effect is noticeable the day after the laser correction.
-
The operation is completely safe - the process is fully computerized, manual manipulations are practically excluded.
-
This method allows you to obtain high–resolution visual acuity, which allows you to maintain perfect vision at different degrees of illumination - at night and dusk, visual sharpness is preserved.
-
The opportunity to improve the eyesight of patients who have previously undergone cataract surgery (that is, with an artificial lens).
-
The possibility of eliminating the regression of visual acuity in patients who had previously undergone surgery using other laser correction methods.
Advantages of laser vision correction for myopia in EMC
-
The operation is performed using an IntraLase femtosecond laser, which is paired with a VISX Star S4 excimer laser and an iDesign scanner. Such equipment can cope even if the patient has a combined pathology: for example, astigmatism is combined with myopia.
-
The EMC clinic has the only Abbot iDesign Advanced device in Russia. He scans the eye and develops an individual formula for each patient, according to which the laser corrects vision. The detailed results of the iDesign examination make it possible to perform the most complex operations that were not previously possible.
-
The treatment is performed by the head of the EMC Ophthalmology Clinic, Raed Elias. His work experience is more than 30 years. During this time, Dr. Elias performed more than 16,000 laser surgeries, including Russia's first laser correction of age-related hyperopia. He has worked and internships in leading clinics in Germany, England and France.
