Hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis is an enlargement of the renal pelvis (part of the collecting system of the kidney) that occurs due to an anomaly or malformation. With this disease, difficulty in the outflow of urine from the kidney develops, which can lead to serious dysfunction and even death of the kidney.

Stages of hydronephrosis:

stage 1: dilation of the renal pelvis;
stage 2: enlargement of the pelvis and calyx of the kidney. Damage and atrophy of the kidney tissue begins.
stage 3: complete atrophy of the kidney.

Treatment of hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis can be cured only surgically, drug therapy is used as an adjunct to relieve the inflammatory process.

Operations performed to eliminate hydronephrosis are aimed at restoring the natural urinary tract for normal urine outflow. These complex reconstructive surgical interventions are traditionally performed from large "open" accesses.
