Kyphosis
Kyphosis is a pathology of the musculoskeletal system, expressed in the curvature of the upper spine, most often. Kyphosis may occur on its own, or it may be the result of a spinal injury or developing diseases (rickets, tuberculosis).
Kyphosis of the thoracic spine is the most common. A patient with this pathology has a drooping diaphragm, wedge-shaped deformities of the vertebrae, destruction of intervertebral cartilage and weakening of the abdominal muscles. In the advanced stages of kyphosis, due to anatomical changes in the structure of the chest, lung dysfunction and intercostal muscle atrophy may occur.
The disease is diagnosed based on an external examination of the patient: shoulders slumped forward, stooping or hunchback. However, the severity of the pathology can only be judged by the results of radiography: often, due to the structure of the patient's body, the externally pronounced kyphosis may be insignificant on the X-ray.Traditional treatment of kyphosis is effective only in the early stages of the disease. The manual therapy method is popular, but we must not forget that you can only trust a trusted, highly qualified specialist, otherwise there is a high risk of dislocation of the vertebrae or even more severe complications. As an orthopedic treatment, metallosteosynthesis is practiced with plates that straighten the curvature of the spine.
