Stages of prostatitis
Acute prostatitis
The acute course of prostatitis is characterized by a sharp onset, high fever, chills, difficulty urinating, severe pain in the perineum and when urinating. Acute prostatitis is dangerous because areas of purulent tissue melting (abscesses) may occur in the prostate tissue, which requires immediate surgical treatment.
Chronic prostatitis
In the chronic course of the disease, the severity of symptoms is not as pronounced as in acute prostatitis. As a rule, patients do not pay attention to this for a long time or prefer to self-medicate, which in most cases leads to an aggravation of the process and a decrease in effectiveness during subsequent treatment.
Diagnostics
Collecting anamnesis about the course of the disease and previous therapy;
-
- Filling out accepted international questionnaires;
-
- Finger rectal examination;
-
- Urinalysis;
-
- Bacteriological analysis (culture) of urine, prostate secretions, and ejaculate;
-
- Prostate ultrasound;
-
- Uroflowmetry is an objective method of assessing the quality of urination;
Treatment
Treatment tactics depend on the stage of the disease and the causes of its occurrence.
Acute prostatitis requires examination as soon as possible to exclude abscesses (areas of purulent melting of tissue) and to start treatment immediately.
The treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis is based on properly selected, long-term antibacterial therapy in combination with other therapeutic measures.
Chronic abacterial prostatitis is based on nonspecific inflammation, the mechanism of which is not fully understood, and therefore a special approach and selection of an individual treatment plan are required for this category of patients:
-
- Drug therapy and administration of specific anti-inflammatory drugs;
-
- Shock wave therapy;
-
- Complex immunomodulatory therapy;
-
- Physical therapy - remains one of the main components of complex prostatitis treatment today;
- - Surgical treatment - for the purpose of drainage of areas of melting of prostate tissue (abscesses) in the complicated course of acute prostatitis.
