Kidney cancer diagnosis

Kidney cancer is diagnosed by:

• Kidney ultrasound;

• Computed tomography (CT);

• Multispiral computed tomography (MSCT).

Based on the data obtained, specialists develop treatment tactics.

Kidney cancer treatment

Early stages are small and medium–sized tumors that occupy up to half of the kidney. We always try not to remove the affected organ, but to preserve it. This allows us to do the most accurate diagnosis and vascular tomography, which allows not only the size of the tumor, but also to assess its blood supply and identify those specific vessels that feed this tumor. This is necessary in order not to damage the kidney itself when removing the tumor and leave it as viable as possible.

If the specialist has doubts whether it is malignant or benign, we perform a biopsy of the neoplasm, which is absolutely safe and performed under the supervision of computed tomography. If the tumor is malignant, then we remove it with the kidney remaining, usually on a DaVinci robot.

During surgery, we often use urgent histological examinations, which is very important for surgery. The edges of the removed tumor are examined in a matter of minutes. This allows us to understand whether we have removed the entire tumor or whether part of it remains in the body.

The late stages are large tumors. In such cases, the treatment is multi-stage and is conducted jointly with a team of oncologists. First, the tumor and the surrounding tissues into which it has managed to grow are removed. After surgery, a course of drug therapy is prescribed, which significantly reduces the blood supply to the tumor nodes remaining in the body and helps prevent recurrence of the disease.
