Inflammation of the sciatic nerve

Among the complaints that patients often come to us with, it is not uncommon to hear about inflammation of the sciatic nerve, better known in the medical world as sciatica. According to various sources, this disease develops in 13-40 people out of 100. Typical symptoms are pain of varying severity along the back of the leg from the buttock and below, often aggravated by bending forward or lifting a straight leg up from a prone position. The pain often increases in the sitting position with pressure on the buttock of the affected side. Morning worsening of symptoms is also characteristic of this disease. The pain can be pronounced and cause limitations and discomfort in everyday life: the inability to sit, drive, walk, exercise, and others.

With mild forms of sciatica, there is a chance of spontaneous recovery, but the risk of the disease becoming chronic is quite high. At the time of the onset of the disease, it is impossible to predict the course of the disease, therefore, a thorough examination and treatment at the earliest possible stages are necessary.

Reasons:

• herniated disc (one of the most common causes of sciatica).

• narrowing of the intervertebral openings in osteochondrosis, resulting in compression of the nerve roots and inflammation of the sciatic nerve;

• hypothermia of the body;

• injuries of the musculoskeletal system;

• the tumor;

• diabetes;

• abscess;

• pelvic infections.

Note that sciatica during pregnancy is a common phenomenon, because due to complex changes in the posture and mechanics of movements of the spinal column, the transverse dimensions of the intervertebral openings decrease, which leads to compression of the nerve roots.
