27 years of experience in neurosurgery.In 2007, he successfully defended his dissertation on the topic "Diagnosis and surgical treatment of degenerative compression syndromes at the level of the cervical spine", awarded the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Since 2011 – Head of the Neurosurgical department of the Federal State Budgetary Budgetary Institution "Scientific Center of Neurology".

Under the guidance of A.O. Guschia, 5 PhD theses have been defended, and 4 more are planned to be defended.

He is the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Spine Surgery, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgery named after N.N.Burdenko, the Russian Neurosurgical Journal named after Professor A.L.Polenov.

Laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation Award in the field of science and technology (Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 02/20/2014 No. 230-r). Title of the work: Development and implementation in clinical practice of a set of methods of minimally invasive neurosurgery in diseases and injuries of the spinal cord and spine.
