For one of our patients, a simple fall resulted in a fracture of the lower wall of the eye socket. Externally, this was manifested only by swelling of the eyelids and a "bruise", but the internal injuries turned out to be much more serious. The patient was concerned about double vision that appeared after the injury. He filed this complaint with the EMC.
The most informative study in the diagnosis of facial injuries is computed tomography. Less than an hour after the patient's treatment, the diagnosis was established. It turned out that during the fall, he suffered a fracture of the lower wall of the eye socket on the right with dislocation of fragments. As a result, the volume of the eye socket increased, and the eye shifted down and back. In addition, the inferior rectus muscle of the eye, involved in the movement of the eyeball, lost its support and was pinched by the sharp edges of bone fragments. As a result, the mechanism of binocular vision "broke down" - objects began to double.
You can't wait in such situations. An urgent operation is needed to restore the structures of the orbit, which was performed - the lower rectus muscle of the eye was released, the lower wall of the orbit was restored with synthetic material. We have restored the volume of the eye socket and returned the support to the muscles.
The patient had no traces on his skin, he was discharged from the clinic the day after the operation, and returned to active life 3 days later.
