Balloon sinusoplasty is a revolutionary method of treating sinusitis
If a person has massive inflammation in the sinuses of the nose, and he needs to recover as soon as possible, for example, he has to fly, balloon sinusoplasty becomes the only way out.
During the operation, the surgeon uses special equipment to find the blocked mouth (entrance) of the affected sinus. The mouth is expanded using a so-called balloon, which allows the expansion procedure to be performed bloodlessly without causing injury to surrounding tissues. The operation takes no more than an hour, anatomical structures are not damaged, tampons are not inserted into the nose, because often there is not even a drop of blood.
When the patient wakes up, he can leave the clinic immediately. You can safely go on a trip - all the risks of developing aerosinusitis and aerotites are eliminated.
Sinusitis (from Latin sinus – sinus) is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the paranasal sinuses. Such widespread diseases as sinusitis and frontitis are varieties of sinusitis. More than 10 million cases of inflammation of the paranasal sinuses are recorded annually in Russia.
Symptoms of sinusitis
- pain in the face, feeling of pressure, fullness or stuffiness of the nose;
- difficulty in nasal breathing;
- discharge of yellow or green mucus from the nose;
- loss of sense of smell and taste;
- increased fatigue;
- headache;
- toothache;
- sore throat.
Treatment usually begins with the prescription of medications by the attending physician. However, often drug treatment does not provide complete recovery. In such cases, a chronic inflammatory process develops, in which patients report frequent headaches, runny nose, difficulty in nasal breathing, partial loss of sense of smell, and other symptoms. Sinusitis is considered chronic if the inflammation lasts more than 3 months.
A modern approach in the treatment of sinusitis is functional endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses. According to statistics, more than 40% of patients suffering from chronic sinusitis do not experience improvement with conservative treatment. Balloon sinusoplasty is recommended for such patients, a minimally invasive procedure that allows them to open the sinuses near the nasal sinuses.
Balloon sinusoplasty is less traumatic than traditional surgery, it minimizes blood loss, reduces the risk of mucosal damage and postoperative complications, and preserves the natural anatomy and functioning of the sinuses.
During balloon sinusoplasty, inflamed sinuses are opened in a gentle way that preserves the integrity of the tissues and does not damage the mucous membrane. At the beginning of the operation, a balloon catheter is inserted into the inflamed sinus and, by gently inflating the balloon, the natural sinus cavity is expanded. Then the sinus is cleaned of pus and mucus using various solutions, after which the instrument is removed from the nasal cavity.
Sinuses after balloon sinusoplasty remain open and can function normally, removing mucus. Due to this, both the feeling of pressure in the face area and the pain symptoms that are usually present with sinusitis disappear. Balloon sinusoplasty often does not require general anesthesia – only local anesthesia is sufficient. And the recovery period after it takes an average of 24 hours (3-5 days after a routine operation).
