Breast biopsy under MRI control
A
biopsy or tissue sampling from a pathological formation under the control of MRI is a modern high—tech technique performed in an MRI room using special equipment by a specialist in breast diagnostics.
An MRI-controlled breast biopsy is performed when another type of control during a biopsy (ultrasound, X-ray) is not possible, since the pathological area is visible only with MRI.
The technique makes it possible to obtain tissue samples from very small MR-suspicious formations, the diameter of which does not exceed 4 mm.An MRI—controlled biopsy is a painless procedure, it is performed on an outpatient basis, and after it is completed, the patient can return to normal life almost immediately. A slight inconvenience is the position of the body on the stomach for one hour. The result of the histological examination is usually ready in 5 days.
In 2013, the first MR breast biopsy in Russia was performed at the European Medical Center. To date, the EMC Mammology Clinic has performed more than 400 biopsies.Learn more about breast biopsies.
