CT-controlled biopsy

CT-assisted CT biopsy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure for obtaining histological material using a special thin needle under the supervision of computed tomography.

The purpose of this procedure is to obtain samples of material from internal organs in case of suspected malignancy in order to clarify the diagnosis.

This procedure is necessary for accurate diagnosis. If a malignant tumor is suspected, a CT-assisted biopsy makes it possible to determine the cellular composition of the formation, and also makes it possible to conduct genetic tests to search for specific mutations in the resulting material. Aspiration (cytological) biopsy is performed in many medical institutions, which does not allow for immunohistochemical and genetic tests, which are necessary to determine the nature of the formation. A trepanation biopsy and a full set of diagnostic tests are performed at the European Medical Center, which allows the doctor to determine an effective patient-oriented treatment strategy. If there are specific genetic mutations in the resulting material, targeted therapy is used to treat a specific type of tumor, which significantly increases survival and has fewer side effects.

Advantages of the procedure– the main advantage of this procedure is its minimally invasive nature. To obtain histological material, special preparation and anesthesia are not required – the entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia and in most cases does not cause much discomfort to the patient. Guidance under the control of computed tomography allows the doctor to determine the course of the needle as accurately as possible, which reduces the likelihood of complications. The average duration of the procedure is 30 minutes.

Preparation for the procedure– no special training is required. When a patient is taking antiplatelet medications, they must be discontinued 1 week before the procedure. Biopsies in children are performed under sedation.

Procedure progress

Before performing the procedure, the patient is consulted by a specialist who reviews the previous CT results and determines the possibility and necessity of performing a biopsy.

The procedure begins with an overview CT scan to determine the exact location of the area from which histological material needs to be obtained. The doctor selects the optimal trajectory of the needle and marks the injection site on the patient's skin. Next, the patient undergoes local anesthesia at the biopsy site to ensure that the procedure is painless. After anesthesia, the doctor inserts a biopsy needle and, under the guidance of computed tomography, accurately takes the material – the duration of the material itself takes several seconds.

Advantages of performing CT-assisted biopsy at a European Medical Center

  • At the EMC, this procedure is performed by ProfessorEvgeny Isaakovich Libson(Israel), who has many years of experience in conducting biopsies of various organs. A CT-assisted biopsy is also performed by a radiologist, a certified surgeonAndrey Yuryevich Trebushenkov.
  • Efficiency. We perform a trepanation core biopsy, which, unlike aspiration, allows us to obtain a sufficient amount of material and makes it possible to perform complete diagnostic tests – immunohistochemical and genetic analysis to search for specific mutations. This allows you to determine an effective personal treatment strategy.
  • The procedure is safe. All biopsies are performed under strict instrumental control.
