IVF with minimal stimulation
In Vitro fertilization is considered one of the most effective ART techniques. It is a procedure in which eggs are taken from a woman's body in order to fertilize them with sperm from a partner or donor in the laboratory. The program consists of several stages, one of which is ovulation stimulation.
What is IVF and what is the minimum stimulation program
In vitro fertilization is a procedure in which eggs are taken from a woman's body in order to fertilize them with sperm from a partner or donor in the laboratory. The program consists of several stages, one of which is ovulation stimulation.

To increase the chances of success of the program, several eggs are needed, which are obtained through hormone therapy. In order to minimize possible side effects on the body, a program with minimal stimulation has now become widely used.
This program, also called the gentle or gentle protocol, is based on stimulation using low doses of hormonal drugs.
Indications for IVF with minimal stimulation
The program is shown to women:
- at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome;
- having contraindications to the standard procedure;
- with reduced ovarian reserve
The program is also carried out in cases where it is necessary to obtain a small number of oocytes.
This kind of stimulation is resorted to by patients who, for personal reasons, do not want to expose the body to large doses of hormones and want the fertilization process to be more natural.
The program is also suitable for women with unsuccessful previous IVF attempts with excellent embryo quality. In this case, the problem may lie not in the response to stimulation, but in implantation. In a mild protocol, the effect on the endometrium is minimal, it matures better and the probability of successful implantation increases (if
a "fresh" transfer is planned)
Preparation for IVF with minimal stimulation in Moscow
To increase the chances of conception, careful preparation for the procedure is necessary. It does not consist only in conducting a number of surveys. So, the spouses need to:
- Change your lifestyle and nutrition.It is necessary to completely eliminate bad habits. A woman is recommended a varied, vitamin-rich diet, supported by the intake of vitamin complexes. A man should also adhere to a healthy lifestyle so that a reproductologist can obtain high-quality seed material.
- Sexual relations.Before follicle puncture, you can lead a normal intimate life: to obtain high-quality biomaterial, it must be updated regularly. Abstinence is necessary 3-4 days before egg collection and sperm donation in order to accumulate a sufficient number of spermatozoa.
Surveys
The minimum list of examinations includes both spouses taking blood tests for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, blood type and Rh factor. The main examination for a man is the delivery of a spermogram. The list of additional studies for a woman can be quite impressive and include:
- a biochemical blood sample;
- screening blood clotting test;
- hormonal status;
- urinalysis;
- a vaginal swab for flora and latent infections;
- checking the fallopian tubes;
- visiting a number of specialized specialists.
In each individual case, an additional examination may be prescribed in addition to standard tests. For example, if a woman has already resorted to IVF more than once, then she needs to take a blood test for AMH and examine her ovarian reserve, which can be depleted even at a young age.
IVF with minimal stimulation at low AMH will be successful only if the patient responds well to stimulation.

Algorithm of IVF with minimal stimulation
The gentle protocol consists of the same steps as the standard one, with the only difference being that the woman is given minimal doses of hormonal drugs during stimulation. The stages will be as follows:
- Ovulation stimulation. With mini-IVF, a maximum of 3-4 high-quality oocytes are obtained, with which further work is carried out.
- Follicle puncture. It is performed under ultrasound control in order to extract mature oocytes. At the same time, work is underway with the biological material of the spouse.
- Fertilization of eggs. It is performed in the laboratory in order to obtain viable embryos.
- Transfer of ready-made embryos.As a rule, the result of IVF with minimal stimulation is the production of two or three high-quality embryos.
- Pregnancy support. At this stage, a woman is prescribed drugs to support a possible pregnancy, which can only be confirmed by HCG analysis.
The benefits of IVF with minimal stimulation
The advantages of the mini protocol are:
- minimization of side effects and complications;
- minimization of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome;
- lower cost of the procedure.
