Electrocoagulation of benign neoplasms
The fight against benign neoplasms on the skin does not always require serious surgical intervention. There are methods to get rid of the problem quickly, painlessly and without scars. One of the most effective methods is electrocoagulation.
What is electrocoagulation
Electrocoagulation is a method of removing benign neoplasms on the skin using high–frequency current. This method is used to combat various pathologies: papillomas, warts, keratomas, atheromas and many others.
The advantages of electrodestruction are its safety and effectiveness. This method allows for a targeted effect on education without affecting healthy tissues. Due to this, when removing the pathology, the risk of scars and other cosmetic defects is minimized.
In addition, electrocoagulation involves simultaneous removal of pathology and coagulation (cauterization). blood vessels, which prevents bleeding and accelerates the healing process. Removal of neoplasms of different diameters is available. In addition, tissue samples can then be sent for histological examination.
At the EMC clinic, the procedure is performed by qualified surgeons and dermatologists using modern equipment. This guarantees high efficiency of the procedure and minimal risks to the patient's health.
Indications and contraindications
Electrocoagulation is recommended in cases where it is necessary to remove superficial benign growths on the skin. These can be:
-
papillomas and viral warts;
-
keratomas (solar or seborrheic);
-
atheromas (cysts filled with sebaceous gland secretions);
-
warts (sexually transmitted warts);
-
nevi (moles);
-
Molluscum contagiosum;
-
soft fibroids (papillomas).
Despite its safety and effectiveness, the technique has a number of contraindications. For example, herpes infection in the active phase, the presence of a pacemaker, if the device has not previously been programmed for this procedure.
How's it going
The procedure is performed in a clinic setting and does not require hospitalization. A local anesthetic is applied to the skin for anesthesia, or a solution of an anesthetic drug such as articaine or lidocaine is injected under the formation of the skin.. Then, using a special device, the doctor acts on the neoplasm with a high-frequency current. The current causes coagulation of the protein structures of the formation and the surrounding blood vessels, which leads to their destruction and subsequent rejection. A crust forms at the site of the removed formation. After its rejection, there are no scars or scars on the skin, if the formation was superficial.
After the procedure, a sterile bandage is applied to the treated area. The healing period depends on the size and location of the neoplasm, but usually ranges from a few days to two weeks.
Skin care after electrocoagulation
After the procedure, it is important to properly care for the skin to ensure fast and safe healing. Here are some recommendations:
-
do not wet the treated area for the first day after removing the pathology;
-
avoid direct sunlight on the wound;
-
Do not use makeup or cosmetics on the treated area until it is completely healed.;
-
do not remove the crust that forms after removing the neoplasm (it will fall off by itself when the skin under it heals);
-
avoid rubbing clothing on the treated area.
All these recommendations will help to avoid infections and speed up the healing process. Also, after removal, the doctor will prescribe special antiseptic regenerating agents – use them according to the recommendations.
