Treatment of Dry Eye syndrome
In recent years, the dry eye syndrome has become increasingly relevant, which includes a complex of clinical and functional signs of drying (xerosis) of the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva due to prolonged disruption of the stability of the tear film. Currently, "dry eye" syndrome is one of the frequent causes of chronic eye irritation, inflammatory injection of conjunctival vessels and, consequently, "red eye".
According to various authors, the disease in question is common in an average of 15-17% of the total adult population of the developed world. Moreover, this indicator tends to increase from year to year. So, over the past 30 years, the frequency of detection of dry eye syndrome has increased 4.5 times!
The clinical manifestations of dry eye syndrome combine an abundance of nonspecific subjective symptoms (patient complaints) and objective signs of pathology (detected by the doctor during the examination)

Complaints of dry eye syndrome
-
negative reaction to instillation of any eye drops into the conjunctival cavity;
-
intolerance to conditioned air, fan heaters, wind, smoke and smog;
-
discomfort when watching TV, working on a computer, or reading;
-
detachable from the eyes.
According to the clinical course of dry eye syndrome, the following forms are distinguished:

easy;
-
moderate severity;
-
severe corneoconjunctival xerosis;
-
particularly severe corneal conjunctival xerosis.
The latter two forms may require emergency surgery to preserve the patient's visual functions and eyes.
Treatment of dry eye syndrome is primarily aimed at moisturizing the ocular surface, stabilizing the tear film and relieving the inflammatory process in the tissues of the orbit. Currently, pharmacies offer more than a dozen drugs of "artificial" and "natural" tears.
