Optical coherence tomography
Ultra-high resolution optical coherence tomography is a new word in ophthalmology
Ultra-high resolution optical coherence tomography (OST) with high-speed imaging is a unique non-invasive laser technology that allows imaging of eye tissues at the cellular level.
The study performed using this technology greatly facilitates the diagnosis of various diseases of the retina, optic nerve, and cornea of the eye. Modern ultra-high-resolution OST allows for dynamic monitoring and correction of treatment for glaucoma, makes it possible to choose the most effective treatment tactics for age-related macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome, corneal dystrophy, and choose the right contact lenses.
The OST system itself is not new, but the new equipment makes it possible to obtain ultra-high resolution OST (UVR-OST) with a reduction in the intervals between slices from 10 to 3 nanometers. Such a breakthrough in technology can be compared to the advent of high- and ultra-high-resolution TVs with 3D technologies. A new method of image registration and processing based on the Fourier domain (FD)-OCT) principle has increased the shooting speed by 50-100 times compared to the standard OST system .
All these changes made it possible to achieve the smallest detail of the microanatomy of all layers of the eye and obtain high-resolution 3D images for detailed analysis.
Research on this device is now available at the EMC Ophthalmology Clinic.
