PET/CT is becoming increasingly important in the assessment of dementia, as neurodegenerative diseases are becoming a public health problem.
Multimodal imaging with MRI and positron emission tomography with 2-[fluoro-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose makes it possible to detect neurodegenerative disorders earlier than is possible by other methods.Accurate interpretation of these studies requires recognition of typical metabolic patterns caused by dementia and artifacts caused by image processing. Although visual interpretation is a vital component of image analysis, computer diagnostic software has been shown to improve diagnostic accuracy.
