Sacral neuromodulation - correction of urinary disorders
Official WHO statistics confirm that urinary incontinence is the most common female urological problem. Every fourth woman faces it. Men are twice as likely to suffer from incontinence due to their physiological characteristics. But most men and women with this ailment refuse to consult a urologist.
WHAT IS THE DANGER OF URINARY INCONTINENCE
Incontinence itself does not pose a serious threat to human health and life. Although it sometimes leads to chronic inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes of the external genitalia.
This problem poses a serious danger to the moral and psychological state of a person. He feels constant discomfort, ceases to be mobile, restricts himself in movements and loses self-confidence.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO QUICKLY FIX THE PROBLEM OF URINARY INCONTINENCE
To date, the newest method, sacral neuromodulation, allows to quickly eliminate the problem of urinary incontinence in men and women. Until recently, such treatment was available only abroad. Today, EMC is one of the few clinics in Russia where patients can receive this effective treatment.
WHAT IS SACRAL NEUROMODULATION

Sacral neuromodulation is a method of eliminating neurogenic disorders of the pelvic organs and intestines (urinary retention and fecal incontinence). It is effective even when other treatments are ineffective or have absolute contraindications.
The essence of sacral neuromodulation is to irritate the nerve fibers that support the functioning of the bladder. This is achieved by implanting a special generator. It is he who, with the help of weak electrical impulses, continuously stimulates nerve fibers.
The implant is installed in two stages.
The first (trial) is the implantation of a small electrode near the sacral nerves. The electrode is connected to a small external generator, which is easily hidden under clothing. The procedure does not require hospitalization.
The duration of the test stage can last up to a month. During this period, the urologist adjusts the optimal pulse frequency and amplitude to achieve maximum effect, and then evaluates the results of therapy. If during this time the symptoms of the disorders decrease by at least half, the patient is fitted with a subcutaneous implant.
EFFECTIVENESS OF SACRAL NEUROMODULATION
Studies conducted in Europe and the USA have proven the high effectiveness of the method. For example, in patients with bladder hyperactivity, the number of cases of incontinence decreases by 90-92% six months after the implant is installed. In more than 80% of patients, a lasting effect is observed 5 years after the implantation of the implant.
People who have previously had serious urinary disorders note a significant improvement in their quality of life and are ready to recommend sacral neuromodulation as a very effective and safe method of solving the problem.
DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR SACRAL NEUROMODULATION
Sacral neuromodulation has contraindications, therefore, before the procedure of implant placement, the patient must undergo a comprehensive urological and, if necessary, neurological examination. Only after the urologist is convinced that there are no contraindications, the first stage of treatment can begin.
The examination before neuromodulation includes:
- Ultrasound
- X-ray examination with contrast
- cystoscopy
- KUDI (comprehensive urodynamic study)
According to the doctor's indications, additional examinations may be prescribed for the patient.
In our clinic, patients can undergo all the necessary examinations using modern equipment in a minimum amount of time.
