Stereotactic breast biopsy
The Mammology Center of the European Medical Center (EMC) unites radiology specialists, mammologists, surgeons, oncologists, and reconstructive surgery specialists and provides a full cycle of diagnostics and treatment of breast diseases.
At the mammologist's appointment, a woman undergoes an initial examination, ultrasound examination or mammography, depending on her age and indications, and immediately receives a conclusion.
However, examination during consultation and methods of radiation diagnosis do not always allow us to judge the nature of changes and neoplasms, therefore, to determine whether they are benign or malignant, it is necessary to study the educational material in a pathomorphological laboratory. Sampling of the material is performed by stereotactic biopsy under X-ray or MRI control.
Biopsy technique
Stereotactic biopsy is performed at the EMC on a special table in a horizontal position, rather than in a sitting position, as can be offered in non-specialized centers, which allows a woman to relax as much as possible and minimize unpleasant sensations, and also ensures greater diagnostic accuracy of the procedure.;
Most of the world's leading diagnostic clinics use this particular technology for breast biopsy. The woman lies face down, so that the mammary glands are located in the holes for access to biopsy instruments. A needle is used to vacuum extract the material, which is sent to the laboratory for examination.
The advantage of a vacuum biopsy is that it is possible to take a small piece of tissue rather than cellular material, which is more informative for a pathologist. In addition, with a vacuum biopsy, there is no need to re-insert the needle for additional sampling of the material within the framework of a single study, unlike a classical needle biopsy.
Examination, ultrasound and mammography, biopsy, and then morphological examination of the material in EMC are performed within the same clinic. This makes it possible to avoid the emergence of different approaches in interpreting the results and achieve high efficiency in establishing a diagnosis.
Special attention in the EMC is paid to the psychological comfort of patients, therefore, the standards of work are formed taking into account their needs and for their convenience. The EMC Mammology Center offers to perform a biopsy immediately after identifying the need for it, so that the woman does not face an unpleasant wait for the procedure and gets the result as soon as possible. After receiving the biopsy results, the doctors of the EMC Mammology Center make a collective decision on the appropriateness and methods of treatment.
