A month ago, 1.5-year–old Sasha was diagnosed with a severe malformation - a brain stem tumor. The child's condition worsened every day due to the progressive growth of the tumor, which caused increased pressure in the cerebrospinal fluid, severe hydrocephalus and associated severe neurological disorders.
EMC neurosurgeons undertook the most difficult operation, which no other medical institution in Russia dared to perform. The operation required the concentration of all modern technologies of neurosurgical treatment: neural navigation devices for building a three-dimensional virtual model of the patient's head, intraoperative monitoring, the use of a modern surgical microscope, microsurgical instruments, radiofrequency electrosurgery and ultrasound aspiration.
The operation was performed jointly with Swiss neurosurgeon Professor Evaldas Chesnoulis. During the operation, doctors removed the tumor and restored the cerebrospinal fluid – the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid began to decrease. After the successful operation, the child was transferred for further treatment to the Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Care for Children with malformations of the craniofacial region and congenital diseases of the nervous system.
All the doctors and nurses at EMC were deeply worried about little Sasha, and they are glad that the operation was successful and wish him a speedy recovery.
