The term “hyperhidrosis”, or increased sweating, comes from the Latin "hyper", which means elevated, and "hydro", which corresponds to the Russian word “water". Hyperhidrosis is a pathological condition and is the most common form of sweating disorders. Areas of excessive sweating can be localized on almost any part of the body, most often on the feet, palms and armpits. Intense sweating can begin even with a little excitement, and the appearance of sweat droplets on the palms or clothes causes fear, which, in turn, leads to even more perspiration. Even mild forms of hyperhidrosis can cause significant psychological discomfort. Fortunately, there are currently reliable and effective ways to solve this problem.
Intradermal administration of botulinum toxin preparations is a modern, safe and highly effective method of treating hyperhidrosis. (Botox) in the armpits and other areas of increased sweating – palms and soles.
The principle of action of the drug is to block the nerve impulse traveling from the nerve to the sweat gland, as a result of which it loses its ability to secrete sweat. Unlike surgical treatment, Botox treatment of hyperhidrosis does not pose risks to the body associated with possible infection and has no other side effects, such as compensatory hyperhidrosis in other parts of the body.
Hyperhidrosis is treated with microinjections of Botox into problem areas. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, the session takes about one hour. Surface anesthesia is applied beforehand, which prevents the development of soreness at the injection sites. The doses of the drug are selected individually, usually at the rate of 0.5-1 units of the drug per 1 cm 2. On average, about 50 units of Botox are required to treat one problem area. The positive effect develops from 2 to 14 days after the procedure and persists for 6-8 months (in some patients up to 1 year). After the expiration of the drug, it is possible to repeat the manipulation, while a lower dose is often administered.
Thus, the treatment of hyperhidrosis with Botox is a modern method that allows you to get rid of excessive sweating for a long time without surgery. This method is used only in medical institutions and is performed by a doctor who has received special training and has experience working with botulinum toxin preparations.
