What is uterine hypoplasia?
Uterine hypoplasia is a rare pathology characterized by smaller organ sizes compared to the physiological and age–related norm. As a rule, such a diagnosis also reveals hormonal disorders, poor patency of the fallopian tubes, and problems with the ovaries. Uterine hypoplasia is manifested by the late onset of menstruation, irregular cycle.
The most common causes of the disease are:
- congenital pathology,
- disorders of the endocrine system,
- anorexia,
- severe infectious diseases in childhood,
- chronic intoxication.
Uterine hypoplasia and pregnancy
Women with hypoplasia may experience infertility, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, complications during and after childbirth. The risks depend on the degree of hypoplasia: with minor deviations from the normal size of the uterus and well-functioning ovaries, the prognosis is favorable, with severe hypoplasia, it is possible to use an IVF program with the involvement of a surrogate mother.
