The May holidays are a traditional time when everyone strives to get out into nature, enjoy warm days with friends and family. Unfortunately, sometimes holidays are marred by minor injuries, bruises or poisoning, tick bites. In this article, we will provide a number of simple rules for first aid in the most common situations.
Bruises
There is an opinion that in the acute period, ointment or an iodine mesh should be immediately applied to the injury site. This is a fundamentally wrong approach – on the first day, the injury site must be exposed to cold. In the absence of ice, for example, a bag of frozen vegetables is suitable for these purposes. Some car first–aid kits have special cooling packs - you can use them. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may need medical attention in the future.
Cuts
The depth of the cut and the degree of bleeding may vary, and the treatment tactics will vary. If the bleeding is very severe, the first thing to do is to stop it. The simplest and most recommended method is to apply a pressure bandage to the wound. Applying a tourniquet, if done incorrectly, can do more harm than good. Seek immediate medical attention after the bleeding stops. If there is no significant bleeding, treat the wound with antiseptics and apply a sterile bandage. You do not use iodine to treat the wound itself, only the skin around the wound can be treated with iodine. Then, if necessary, seek medical help.
If you have a wound or a deep cut, and you have not been vaccinated against tetanus in the last 5 years, vaccination is mandatory.
Poisoning
The frequency of poisoning increases during the holidays. This is due to the variety and sometimes complete inconsistency of the food consumed at the same time. Fatty foods combined with alcohol can cause reactive changes in the stomach and pancreas. In case of poisoning, the most important thing is to drink plenty of water. It is not necessary to drink a large amount of liquid at the same time, it will only provoke vomiting. You need to drink in small sips, drinking a glass for 20-30 minutes. The use of activated charcoal is unjustified due to the fact that it is quite difficult to take a sufficient amount of this drug to achieve the expected effect. With an increase in body temperature, it is allowed to take paracetamol or ibuprofen, with abdominal pain – antispasmodics. If heartburn and diarrhea occur, "Smekta" is allowed. In case of ineffectiveness of therapy, a doctor's consultation is recommended.
Insect bites
With the onset of warm days, the number of insects also increases. When walking in forested areas, do not forget about ticks. The bites of these insects are dangerous because they can cause diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme disease. To remove the tick, contact a medical institution for medical help. If this is not possible, you can use tweezers or lady's tweezers. Rotate the insect around its own axis counterclockwise. After removing the tick, treat the bite site with antiseptics and consult a doctor for preventive measures. The tick must be preserved and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
