When should I expect my first period after giving birth? This question is answered by Olga Panfilova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, perinatologist, obstetrician-gynecologist of the EMC.
The timing of menstrual cycle recovery varies depending on the presence or absence of breastfeeding. So, for women who do not breastfeed, or whose children are on mixed feeding, the cycle can recover 6-8 weeks after giving birth.
In lactating women, menstruation begins, as a rule, after the cessation or increase of intervals between feedings - on average, it is 6-10 months (extremely individually). The recovery time of the menstrual cycle in women after natural childbirth and after cesarean section surgery, as a rule, does not differ and depends only on the presence and absence of breastfeeding.
