Many women, despite their pregnancy, do not want to shift their household chores to their loved ones: they carry out general cleaning on their own, sometimes they rearrange furniture themselves, carry heavy bags of groceries. Many people would rather not do this. Why – answers Olga Panfilova, PhD, perinatologist, obstetrician-gynecologist at EMC.
It is not recommended to lift heavy objects during pregnancy. This should especially be taken into account by expectant mothers who are at risk of premature birth or who have a short neck. This can potentially lead to an increased likelihood of miscarriage, early delivery, straining of the uterine muscles, and hernia.
If there is still a need to carry and lift heavy objects (a child, objects), it is better to adhere to the following rule to reduce the risks: bend your knees before lifting the object. At the same time, it is important to keep your back as straight as possible and not bend in the abdominal area. All movements should be smooth and not abrupt.
These are general recommendations. In order to clarify individual characteristics, assess risk factors for premature birth, and determine the maximum weight of objects that can be lifted, it is necessary to consult with your doctor.
