Penile prosthetics are a surgical treatment method erectile dysfunction, which allows a man to fully restore his sexual function.
When is phalloprosthesis performed
The main indication for the installation of a phalloprosthesis is erectile dysfunction. This method is used when other methods of treating male impotence cannot restore an erection, there are adverse reactions to medications for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, or the patient considers this technique the most acceptable. Falloprosthesis after prostatectomy without nerve conservation is the only possible way to restore sexual function.
What types of penile prostheses exist
There are two types of phalloprostheses: those with permanent rigidity and hydraulic ones with variable rigidity.
A one-component phalloprosthesis with permanent rigidity consists of 2 solid rods capable of bending and maintaining a preset position. When installing such a phalloprosthesis, the penis retains the dimensions and stiffness set by the prosthesis. In everyday life, the penis bends downwards, in this position it does not stand out much visually and does not interfere with physical activity. If necessary, it raises the hand to the desired state and retains it during sexual intercourse.
Dentures with variable rigidity are a hydraulic system that allows you to maintain physiological conditions during and outside of an erection. These prostheses have cylinders that are implanted into the corpus cavernosum of the penis and, when filled with fluid, provide the penis with an erection. Also, depending on the number of components, they may have a pump and a reservoir.
The disadvantage of a two-component prosthesis is that the second component, which is implanted into the scrotum, has a large size. This can cause functional and aesthetic discomfort.
A three–component phalloprosthesis is a hydraulic system consisting of two elastic cylinders installed in the penis, a liquid reservoir that fits into the pelvis, and a small pump that is installed in the scrotum. With this pump, a man can fill the tubes in his penis with liquid from the reservoir. This creates a penile erection similar to a natural one.
How to install a penile prosthesis
Penile phalloprosthesis is performed under general anesthesia and lasts about 60 minutes. Through a small cosmetic incision, two elastic tubes are inserted into the cavernous bodies of the penis, and a reservoir and pump are installed in the case of a three-component prosthesis.
The operation is not very traumatic, hospitalization is required only for 1-2 days.
Safety of phalloprosthesis in EMC
The phalloprostheses we use are made of special hypoallergenic, wear-resistant materials. And it is especially important that modern three-component prostheses have an antibacterial coating, which practically eliminates the rejection of the implant. All phalloprostheses are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
In the EMC Urological Clinic, falloprosthesis is performed by the most experienced urologists with extensive experience in such operations.
