There is an opinion that knitting and embroidery should not be done during pregnancy. If the expectant mother continues to pursue her hobby, then an ultrasound scan will most likely detect a fetal umbilical cord entanglement. Should I believe it? The question is answered by Olga Panfilova, perinatologist, obstetrician-gynecologist at the European Medical Center.
There is no medical data or research confirming that knitting and embroidery can somehow provoke umbilical cord entanglement. What is really worth paying attention to is how the expectant mother engages in her hobby. In order not to create additional stress on the spine, you should periodically change your posture, get up, and warm up. It is also important to ensure that there is sufficient lighting, otherwise vision may suffer.
If a single umbilical cord entanglement is detected on ultrasound, do not be alarmed. Many pregnant women worry that entangling the umbilical cord will cause fetal suffocation, but this is almost impossible - the baby receives oxygen through the umbilical cord, and breathing through the upper respiratory tract is not carried out in utero.
According to foreign literature (more than 10 studies), it is unlikely that entanglement itself is the cause of severe complications. About 1/3 of children are born with a single non-rigid entanglement without any problems.
