Some of the technologies used at the Center are unique to our country, although they have shown their high effectiveness in the practice of global evidence-based medicine.

Modern diagnosis of liver diseases in Moscow

The specialists of the EMC Hepatological Center carry out a wide range of laboratory and instrumental studies to diagnose various liver diseases, determine its functional and anatomical features. These are studies such as:
  • expert ultrasound diagnostics (ultrasound) of the hepatobiliary system;
  • computed tomography of abdominal organs with intravenous contrast;
  • magnetic resonance imaging;
  • biochemical blood analysis (liver, lipid profiles) for several hours;
  • markers of viral hepatitis A, B, C, D;
  • cancer markers: alpha-fetoprotein, CA19,9, REA, etc.;
  • genotyping of hereditary diseases such as Gilbert's disease, Wilson-Konovalov's disease, hemochromatosis, etc.;
  • endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • an expanded range of laboratory (cytological, immunological, biochemical, hormonal) studies;
  • FibroTest and FibroMax are noninvasive methods for staging liver fibrosis.

Ultrasound examination (ultrasound) of the abdominal organs is one of the first studies that must be performed by a patient with suspected liver disease. During this examination, the doctor determines the size of the liver, the clarity and correctness of its contours. The presence of deformity and / or enlargement of the liver is extremely important in the diagnosis of cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, acute conditions (for example, portal vein thrombosis or hepatic artery). Liver tissue can be homogeneous or contain various inclusions: foci of fatty degeneration, cysts, adenomas, etc. The vascular pattern and condition of the intrahepatic bile ducts are evaluated. At the stage of ultrasound diagnosis, it is possible to detect signs of inflammatory changes, cirrhosis of the liver, the presence of benign or malignant formations. It is impossible to assess the functional state of the liver during ultrasound.
Computed tomography is the next diagnostic step if a more detailed visualization of the organ is necessary. The gastroenterologist uses this diagnostic method if there is a suspicion of the presence of neoplasms in the liver - cysts, hemangiomas, adenomas, adenocarcinomas. The study is performed with intravenous contrast, using substances that are sensitive and well absorbed by liver cells. The image allows you to recognize in detail and under high magnification the "nature" of the formation, its location, relation to blood vessels and bile ducts.
Magnetic resonance imaging of the liver is another method of detailed visualization of the organ. It is used if the CT scan does not provide a sufficient picture to determine the nature of the neoplasm in the liver.
Liver puncture biopsy is the "gold standard" in the diagnosis of liver diseases. Currently, it is rarely used due to the availability of high-quality imaging methods and good laboratory diagnostics, however, if the doctor doubts the correctness of the diagnosis or the pathology is combined (for example, primary biliary cirrhosis and autoimmune hepatitis at the same time), this method is indispensable. In the EMC, this procedure is carried out in one day. Under the control of ultrasound and local anesthesia, the patient is punctured in the right intercostal space and a small piece of liver tissue is taken. The procedure is painless and safe. A few hours later, after the follow-up ultrasound examination, the patient goes home.
Modern genetic analysis technologies make it possible to optimize treatment, that is, to eliminate or minimize the side effects of pharmacotherapy.

Treatment of liver diseases at the EMC Hepatology Center

The EMC Hepatological Center specializes in the treatment of autoimmune and medicinal hepatitis, cross syndrome, hemochromatosis, alcoholic liver damage, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis B, C, D, E. The Center pays special attention to the treatment of hepatitis C.
At the EMC, patients receive an individual approach to the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune hepatitis. Under the guidance of experienced gastroenterologists, dynamic monitoring of the development of the disease is carried out, as well as timely correction of undesirable effects from therapy.
The use of modern schemes for antiviral treatment of hepatitis B has significantly reduced the number of infectious complications. The therapy is very easy to use and has no significant side effects. In the EMC, you can conduct a comprehensive examination for chronic viral hepatitis B, get advice from experienced gastroenterologists and begin antiviral treatment.
In the modern world, chronic viral hepatitis C is no longer a serious problem since the advent of new antiviral drugs. Several tablets a day for 8-12 weeks can defeat the virus in almost 100% of cases! Treatment is indicated for all patients, regardless of the stage of liver fibrosis and viral activity. The European Medical Center provides hepatitis C treatment using the most modern antiviral regimens under the supervision of experienced gastroenterologists. Medicines are purchased directly from a Russian distributor, which eliminates the risk of acquiring "fakes". EMC hepatologists in their work are guided by the recommendations of international experts (European and American Societies for the Study of Liver Diseases).
Timely diagnosis and the use of effective treatment methods in accordance with international standards make it possible to achieve a successful result in a short time.
