Due to which the accuracy of treatment on the EDGE linear accelerator is achieved:

• The automated system checks the accelerator parameters every 10 milliseconds. The robotic treatment table is moved with an accuracy of 0.01cm. This allows specialists to deliver the prescribed dose precisely to the tumor, protecting the surrounding healthy tissues.

• The improved Advanced IGRT imaging system, which allows you to obtain high-quality CT images during a treatment session and monitor the patient's position and radiation target deviation online. This significantly distinguishes EDGE from the cyber knife system, which uses only two perpendicular X-rays, which increases the risk of inaccurate patient placement and can lead to an increase in the dose applied to healthy tissues.
• The innovative Calypso system, which is used in the treatment of hard-to-reach tumors of the lungs, prostate, pancreas, and liver. Calypso monitors the mobility of the target during irradiation using implantable markers, or beacons. The electromagnetic waves emanating from the beacon are used by the system as "GPS signals" to accurately determine the location of the tumor and track its movements during the procedure. This makes it possible to treat tumors of complex localization, protecting healthy tissues as much as possible.

Comparison of EDGE technologies, gamma knife and cyber knife

• The EDGE accelerator has the maximum dose rate among the radiosurgical systems presented today — up to 2400 MU/minute, whereas in the cyber knife the maximum dose rate is 1000 MU/minute, which determines the difference in the speed of treatment of similar localizations in favor of EDGE.
• An EDGE radiation session takes only 10-20 minutes, while a gamma knife treatment session takes from 2 to 3 hours, and a cyber knife treatment session takes from 20 minutes to 1 hour, during which the patient must remain motionless.
• Reducing the treatment time allows the patient to feel more comfortable and reduces the risk of errors associated with shifting the position of the tumor, patient fatigue from staying in one position, which are possible during long sessions.
• Unlike the gamma knife system, which is designed only for the treatment of small spherical foci up to 3-4 cm in diameter, the EDGE accelerator is capable of treating malignant neoplasms of any volume and shape.
• In contrast to the gamma knife, EDGE allows the treatment of brain tumors without local anesthesia and fixation of the head with a rigid stereotactic frame using screws, non-invasively and comfortably for the patient.
