Another successful treatment history of a patient with stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma of the nasopharynx at the EMC Institute of Oncology. A control PET/CT scan after chemoradiotherapy using the RapidArc/IGRT technique revealed the complete disappearance of the tumor.
A 57-year-old patient was diagnosed with stage III squamous cell carcinoma of the nasopharynx. The patient applied to the EMC, where, after a discussion at the consultation, he was recommended chemoradiotherapy using the RapidArc/IGRT method. After successful completion of the course of treatment, a control PET/CT scan revealed the complete disappearance of the tumor.
PET/CT scan (from 06/16/15) examination before treatment:
PET/CT picture of nasopharyngeal formation with pathological metabolic activity of the radiopharmaceutical, conglomerate of enlarged neck lymphomas on the left with pathological metabolic activity of the radiopharmaceutical - signs of neoplastic nasopharyngeal process with secondary lesion of the lateral deep lymph nodes of the neck on the left (IIa). Concretion of the left kidney.
PET/CT scan (11/30/2015) Post-treatment study:
PET/CT data for the presence of foci of pathological metabolic activity characteristic of the neoplastic process were not revealed. When compared with PET/CT from 06/16/2015, there was a positive trend in the form of a lack of formation in the nasopharynx and a decrease in the size of the lymph nodes of the neck on the left with the absence of pathological metabolic activity.
Thus, the RapidArc/IGRT radiation technology helps to remove the tumor without surgical intervention.
