Treatment of kidney cancer with metastases

A 48-year-old patient went to the EMC clinic with a diagnosis: cancer of the left kidney, metastases to the brain and lungs.

The patient's case was discussed at the interdisciplinary consultation of the Tumor Board and treatment in the radiotherapy department was recommended. 
The treatment was performed on a True Beam linear accelerator from Varian (USA). A course of radiation therapy using the RapidArc/IGRT technique was performed on the brain area and at the same time a course of SBRT radiosurgery on the metastatic focus of the apex of the left lung. During a follow-up examination 3 months after the end of treatment, it was noted that the patient's left lung metastasis had disappeared, and PET/CT revealed a complete metabolic response in the brain.

After treatment: Metastatic lesions in the brain have decreased in size, perifocal edema has decreased and metabolic activity is completely absent; there is no metastatic lesion in the S2 segment of the left lung.
