Combined chemoradiotherapy allowed the patient to get rid of the malignant tumor of the eye and preserve his eyesight.
A 66-year-old patient was diagnosed with stage III cancer of the right orbit of the eye. The patient contacted the EMC, where, after discussion at the consultation, chemoradiotherapy using the RapidArc method was recommended. After successful completion of the course of treatment, a control PET/CT scan revealed the complete disappearance of the tumor.
PET/CT scan (from 07/14/15) examination before treatment:
PET/CT image of a voluminous hypermetabolic formation of the right orbit with invasion of the medial wall of the orbit, the medial rectus oculus, and the latticed labyrinth. Compared to CT from 04/6/2015 without significant size dynamics. There were no reliable signs of secondary changes. The site of a moderate increase in metabolism, paratracheal to the right at neck level, does not correlate with the underlying disease; it may correspond to a parathyroid adenoma.
PET/CT scan (12/16/2015) study after treatment:
PET/CT data for the presence of foci of pathological metabolic activity characteristic of the neoplastic process were not revealed. When compared with the PET/CT study from 07/14/2015, there was a complete metabolic response, in the form of the absence of increased accumulation of RFP in the area of the medial edge of the right orbit and a previously determined formation. There is no evidence for the presence of distant and regional metastases. There is a focal increase in metabolic activity in the area of the right lobe of the thyroid gland - an endocrinologist's consultation is recommended.
